Bio

During my 35-year career at USAID, I worked in 29 countries on international public health programs in gradually widening circles, starting with family planning, expanding to child survival and infectious diseases, maternal health, non-communicable diseases, health financing and systems, as well as women's and water programs, and then as a worldwide program officer, including formation of the public health budget in the new State Department Office of U. S. Foreign Assistance Resources.
In addition to serving as a Secretary, Governing Councilor, Action Board Representative, and Chair for APHA's International Health Section, I have held increasingly responsible volunteer positions with other organizations. I have served 4 years as Membership Chair, 4 years on the Board of Directors (and Treasurer) and continue as Treasurer of the USAID Alumni Association. I was President (2 years) and Co-President (2 years) of the Arlington, Virginia branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), after 2 years as VP Membership and 4 years as Treasurer. For 2 years, I was Bylaws Chair of the Board of Directors for AAUW Virginia. I am a Board member for the Public-Private Alliance Foundation, and served on the Advisory Council for Mt Carmel House, which serves formerly unhoused women for 9 years. I was on the Executive Board and Secretary of the Fairlington Citizens Association for 9 years, and was on the Board of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitain Washington, DC Board for 12 years, 2 of them as Secretary.
