Advancing Environmental Justice through GIS, Data, & Visuals

When:  Oct 18, 2023 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)
Environmental justice mapping tools help organizations identify communities experiencing high environmental burdens. Organizations need to be able to visualize the cumulative impacts of environmental injustice on health, locate community assets and conditions, inform policies, and help operationalize justice. The Justice Index (EJI), developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (CDC/ATSDR) in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is the first nationwide index designed to address these impacts through the lens of environmental justice and health equity. This session will provide insight into the EJI, including how it is calculated and structured, as well as examples of how it has been used to advance environmental justice and health equity.
