Work Account
Education: I attended the State University of New York - Albany and received my bachelor's degree in Sociology and Psychology. Later, I went to Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School and attained my master's degree in marketing with a concentration on multiculural marketing. Currently, I'm working on acquiring a Strategic Planning Professional (SPP) certification.
My Work History: My area of expertise is association management with a focus in strategic management. Prior to working at the American Public Health Association (APHA) - I was employed by the American Physical Society and the American Psychiatric Association in which I was responsible for both organization's membership marketing. In March 2003, I was fortunate to join the APHA team as the Section Affairs Manager and was promoted in 2006 as the Director of Component Affairs in 2017, I became the Deputy Director of Membership Services.
I'm passionate in the objectives of APHA and enjoy working with members and leaders to promote health equity, ensure all have access to health care and improve the health of the nation. Three areas that I support inside and outside of the organization include gun violence prevention, rural health and mental health/wellness. My interest in mental health was spurred from my employment at the American Psychiatric Association, in which I was responsible for the membership marketing and assisting fifty-three state and branch affiliates.
What are Member Units?
People ask me that question quite a bit.
My department is made up of three staff members - Elsa Greer , Sebastian Padrino and me. We assist leaders reach out and educate APHA members on what is occurring in their profession or field of interest. Our team is responsible for working with volunteers from Sections, Forums, Caucuses, the Student Assembly, Inter-Sectional Council and Caucus Collaborative.
My Interests: I enjoy traveling and learning more on the Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latin American culture. My favorite form of dance is Afro-Brazilian dance...it definitely gets the heart pumping. Other interest include movies, television (sorry no reality tv for me) and reading.
