Mr. Andrew A. Herrera, MPH, MBA

Bio

Andrew Herrera is the Executive Director of Impact Global Health Alliance (formerly Curamericas Global), an international nonprofit based in Raleigh, NC, dedicated to saving the lives of mothers and children through community-based, data-driven health solutions. Since 2013, Andrew has led the organization’s global strategy, board development, and operations across multiple countries.
A former AFS/U.S. State Department Ambassador to Qingdao, China, Andrew holds a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business—earned while serving full-time in his current role. He is also a proud graduate of East Carolina University in Hispanic Studies and Religious Studies.
Recognizing the volatility of federal and foundation funding, Andrew pioneered a long-term financial strategy that shifted Impact Global Health Alliance away from dependency on external grants toward a sustainable, community-owned model. Under his leadership, the organization launched the Hope through Health Endowment, now valued at over $3.4 million, and built an innovative peer-to-peer fundraising program that raises $600,000+ annually. The endowment alone has provided more than $200,000 in direct support over the past four years—helping insulate mission-critical programs from political cycles and funding cuts. He is also developing locally owned Income Generating Activities to sustain partner organizations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Andrew led a $11M+ contract for statewide equity-based response in North Carolina that reached over 190,000 people, under budget, on time and tripling the agreed upon goals. He has been recognized by the Triangle Business Journal as a Healthcare Hero and a “40 Under 40” award winner.
Andrew speaks to nonprofit leaders about building resilient organizations, centering equity and local ownership, and funding missions with long-term sustainability in mind.
