Dr. Diane L. Adams, MD, MPH, DABCHS


Bio

Background:  Diane L. Adams, MD, MPH, DABCHS, CHS-III is the Founder and Chair Emeritus of the Health Informatics Information Technology (HIIT) Section of APHA as well as Chair Conference of Emeritus Members.  Dr. Adams has earned The 2025 Global Recognition Award for her exceptional contributions across multiple domains within the informatics and technology sector. The award recognizes her world-class achievements in guidance, service, research, advancement, teaching, and mentoring capabilities that have reshaped the intersection of technology and governance.   Her recognition stems from a comprehensive evaluation that highlighted her unique ability to bridge policy making with technological progress while addressing global challenges through innovative solutions.

Currently, Dr. Adams is Chair of the Global Health Information Technology (GHIT) Committee of HIIT.  The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ambassadors Program is part of GHIT where world leader on AI Jayfus T. Doswell, PhD is the Director of AI APHA-Wide Initiative including Sections, Forums. Committees, Caucuses and Affiliates. She has been a member of APHA more than four decades.

Dr. Adams earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School; completed a three-year Family Medicine Residency at Howard University Hospital; followed by a General Preventive Medicine Residency in Maternal and Child Health, and a Masters of Public Health (MPH) from The Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health; Lifetime Member inducted into The Johns Hopkins University Delta Omega Honorary Society; Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame; and Outstanding Women of Achievement in Maryland History Book.  A member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ®,  Dr. Adams was recognized as a "Trailblazer Leader" in the field of public health by Theta Omega Omega Chapter, Silver Spring, MD.

She is a twenty-year veteran, Office of the US Surgeon General (USPHS), as well as a professor, researcher and clinician. She is the author of the best seller book, Health Issues for Women of Color: A Cultural Diversity Perspective.  Dr. Adams was honored and accepted for induction into the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum, Baltimore, Maryland.  Dr. Adams created/established the development of eleven (11) minority health services research centers known as MEDTEP (Medical Treatment Effectiveness Program) over five-year period estimated more than $35 (thirty-five) million at the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, now known as Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The Centers were designed to support patient outcomes research, technical assistance, research training and dissemination. 

She Adams is a Diplomat and Board Certified in Homeland Security  expertise in (Artificial Intelligence (AI ), Cybersecurity and Emergency Preparedness and Response. Dr. Adams is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), and The Links, Incorporated Silver Spring, MD chapter.  Dr. Adams is a former member of the Board of Directors of the United Nations Associations, United States of America (UNA-USA), and National Council (UNA-USA), Chair of the Ethics Committee.  

  She is a Diplomat and Board Certified in Homeland Security with expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Cybersecurity, and Emergency Preparedness and Response among other associated concerns.

Dr. Adams is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), and The Links, Incorporated Silver Spring, MD chapter.  Dr. Adams is a former member of the Board of Directors of the United Nations Associations, United States of America (UNA-USA), and National Council (UNA-USA), Chair of the Ethics Committee.
