Dr. Michael Schmeltz is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health at California State University, East Bay. He has over a decade of experience working on environmental health and climate change issues at local, state, and federal agencies, where he continues in roles as advisor and consultant. His research has focused on the use of geospatial & epidemiological methods for risk assessments to examine social and structural vulnerabilities communities face due to environmental and climate hazards. In addition to his expertise with extreme heat Dr. Schmeltz has experience studying the health impacts of various climate hazards specifically on vulnerability assessments and policy development with an aim to improve adaptation and resilience in the most affected populations.
